One of our big considerations when planning a playhouse is to think about how it can grow with your child. Chestita Baba Marta | Честита Баба Ма Chestita Baba Marta | Честита Баба Марта Today is one of our favorite holidays of the year. Our daughter Tippi was born in Bulgaria and on March 1st Bulgarians celebrate Baba Marta Day. Baba Marta means Grandma March. When Baba Marta is feeling grouchy the weather is cold and wet. On Baba Marta Day people try to cheer her up so she will bring warm spring weather. Friends give each other small red and white bracelets called a martenitsa and say, “Chestita Baba Marta” which translates to “Congratulations Baba Marta”! Everyone wears their martenitsi on their wrist or pinned to their shirts until the first sign of spring like a stork, swallow, or tree beginning to bloom. Then they take them off and hang them on a flowering tree for good luck. For those in the DC region, Baba Marta was feeling extra cheerful today and graced us with a perfect early spring day. It won’t be long until we are tying our martenitsi to blooming trees again. We can’t wait! . . #babamarta #martenitsa #dcmoms #learningthroughliving #bulgarianadoption
